This issue features a festive and creative collection of how-to projects to fulfill your gift-giving needs. Whether your style is classic, country, or contemporary, we’ve got you covered!
When speaking in terms of cookies and cake, there’s nothing like fresh-from-the-oven home-baked goodies, and when it comes to gifts, there’s nothing like handmade! In addition to painting the projects featured on the following pages, here are some ways to adapt the designs to other surfaces.
1. Besides painting the scenes on the Vintage Rolling Pins, enlarge the patterns and paint them on short barrel staves or plaques; then attach them to the backs of your dining room chairs or use them for wall plaques.
2. The designs on the Winter Wonderland Sleds can also be adapted to fit larger sleds that can be displayed throughout the winter months.
3. The Wooden Napkin Rings with Tea Light Holders are truly unique. Expand this grouping by adapting parts of the designs to charger plates, wine glasses, place mats, a table runner, and more!
4. Create a stunning room display for the Santa and the Owl Bowl design by painting a coordinating floorcloth.
5. Paint a larger version of the Passionate Pink Poinsettia Card, and then mat, frame, and hang on your wall for a spectacular display!
Although many of us do not have the time to handcraft all the gifts on our list, there are several things we can do to give our gifts that special “homemade” touch. Make a store-bought gift more personal by wrapping it in handcrafted wrapping paper (painted, stenciled, or stamped). Pair this up with a hand-painted Christmas card, or attach a hand-painted ornament or gift tag. (For spectacular ornament designs, order a back issue of A PaintWorks Christmas Ornaments (Holiday 2011).
Also, while you are busily painting gifts for family members and friends, paint a few extras to drop off at a goodwill center, and make someone else’s Christmas just a little bit brighter.
As you prepare for the upcoming holidays, celebrate in the spirit of giving—the best gift of all is not that which you receive, but rather that which you give.
We at PaintWorks wish happiness and joy to you and yours…
